DRAMA FESTIVAL The Drama Festival will be held on June 27 and 28 in the Waikato Winter Show Hall at 8 p.rn. Alteration of the date has been rendered necessary to avoid clashing with another similar function in the town. AT MATAMATA Mrs G. Stewart presided over a good attendance at the June meeting of the Matamata Women’s Institute. Two new members were welcomed, Mrs Mateer, senr., and Mrs 1.. G. Robinson. A novel competition arranged by Mrs H. Whytcross was won by Mrs A. G. Findlater, the prize being donated by Mrs Whytcross. The second competition was won by Mrs Clyffe Taylor, and prize donated by Mrs (1. Stewart. The, intelligence test wa-s won by Mrs R. Hawes, prize being donated by Mrs Taylor. Points competitions resulted ns follows: Table centre, Mrs C. Taylor I. Mrs J. Sorrenson 2, Mrs R. Hawes 3; best bloom, Mrs C. Watts 1, Mrs M. Crabb 2, Mrs E. Brunton 3; invalid dish, Mrs G. Taylor 1, Mrs S. Ellery 2, Mrs G. Watts 3. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames G. Taylor, G. Goodall, T. E. McMillan and J. Sorrenson. AT TAUPIRI There was a good attendance of members and friends at the Taupiri Women’s Institute's June meeting, held in the Town Hall recently. The motto for the month was “When you’re up to your neck in hot water, be like the kettle and sing.” An alteration in the date of the institute birthday was made, it now being held on June 28. An invitation from the Gordonton Women’s Institute t.o their birthday party was read and also a letter of resignation from Mrs Andrews, treasurer, who is leaving the district. Mrs G. Powell was elected as treasurer. The members agreed to give the proceeds of one meeting to the Plunket committee to help their funds. The members of the Te Kowhai Women's Institute gave us an enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment, for which they were heartily thanked. Mrs Watters was welcomed as a new member. The flower competition resulted as follows: —Mrs Farrell (seniors), 1; Mrs G. Powell (juniors) , 1. Points. Mrs Farrell. The hostesses for the afternoon were: Mesdames Buss, Senr., Hutton, Senr., Gooper, and Miss E. Button. AT KAIPAKI At the monthly meeting of the Kaipaki Women’s Institute, Mrs Graham, the president, presided over a good attendance of members, who, seated round a cozy log Are, spent a very enjoyable afternoon. Mrs Hill, Miss Hill and Miss Margaret Hill, of Te Pahu, were welcomed. Miss Hill gave a very interesting talk on Swizterland, describing its beautiful scenery and its customs, and illustrated her talk with many lovely views. Miss Margaret Hill gave a very useful demonstration on thrift, showing how to make articles with used wooden matches. She displayed a small breakfast tray, and demonstrated the making of a tea-pot stand. The presence of these ladies was much appreciated and each was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The roll call, “ Something seen at the Waikato Show,’’ was well answered. A letter of in\it<ilion to Karapiro's fifth birthday party on June 17. was accepted with’thanks. Competitions for the month were won as follows:—Rest three blooms, Miss V. Wallis: best cushion cover, worked in wool. Miss M: Speake 1. Mrs G. Cowley *2. Miss V. Wallis 3. The sales table did good business, Mrs F. Boyd nnd Miss Spenkc being in charge. A delicious afternoon tea served nv tlio hostesses. Mesdames A. Cowley, Junr., R. Gatrhpole, and A. Goodwin, brought the meeting to a close. The president moved a vote of thanks to all special helpers.
