THEFT OF LIQUOR MAGISTRATE’S COURT CASES (Special lo Times) OTO'ROHANGA, Friday In the Magistrate's Court. Otorohanga, before Mr W. H. Freeman. S.M.. two brothers, Joe Nikora and William Nikora were charged with committing mischief on the Otorohamra Golf Club’s property. They were also charged jointly with the theft of liquor, the property of William James Costley, valued at *£3 3s, and further with stealing beer valued at £3 3s. the property of Frederick George Austin. William Nikora was also charged with a breach of probation. On the charge of mischief Joe Nikora was convicted and ordered to pay ha if the cost of the damage, amounting to ss, and William Nikora was convicted and fined £2 10s and ordered to pay 5s toward the cost of the damage On the first theft charge Joe Niko-a was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, and to pay £3 3s, the value of the liquor. William Nikora was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. On the other theft charge Joe Nikora was convicted and ordered to come up l'or sentence if called upon within 12 months; William Nikora was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months and to pay £3 3s, the value of the liquor. For breach of probation, William Nikora was convicted and discharged upon payment of 10s per week, on account of damage to a billiard table at Urunui (Taranaki) and ordered to take out a prohibition order. W. Mossman appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty to all charges. Supply of Liquor Paki Anderson, of Nahoenui, was charged with illegally supplying liquor to a native, lie pleaded guilty, 'and was convicted and fined 30s and costs £1 9s Gd. Ylnga Mana was charged with aiding and abetting Anderson. He pleaded guilty, was convicted and fined £1 with costs 15s Rangi Makitanara, also known as Puhi McDonald, was charged with illegally supplying liquor to a native. He pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidence the magistrate amended the charge to one of aiding and aDetting the supply- of liquor. Makitanara was convicted, and fined £l, with costs £1 3s 3d.

Heti Moke, charged with aiding and abetting, was convicted and lined £1 with costs £2 Is 3d. William Tai, charged with illegally supplying liquor to a native, was convicted and fined £1 with costs £2 3s 3d. Traffic Offender Leslie Albert Arnold, truck driver, of Otorohanga, was charged with failing to keep his car as near as practicable to the left of the roadway, on the occasion of a re-cent collision with another motorist. He was convicted and find £2, with costs 10s. Maintenance Charge Kenneth Orr, charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as the sum of 10s weekly was paid, together with 2s 6d weekly off the arrears. An'application for a variation of the order was dismissed. Farewell to Town Clerk Members of the Otorohanga Town Board gathered in the Town Hall to bid farewell to Mr G. ‘B. Davis, the town clerk, who is leaving after two years’ service to take up a position in Auckland. The chairman of the board. Mr F. O. R. Phillips, on behalf of the Commissioners, spoke of the excellent service given by Mr Davis during his term of office, and expresed regret at his leaving the town. He extended best wishes to 'Mr Davis. Several commissioners also spoke highly of Mr Davis. The guest was the recipient of a handsome pencil, suitably engraved. Mr Davis, in his reply, said he was extremely sorry to leave the town, and a board which had always worked harmoniously together. He had done his best to be efficient with his work, and he appreciated the fact that the commissioners had considered his services worthy of recognition, and that they had so unanimously combined lo tender him a farewell. Rifle Shooting Members of the Otorohanga Defence Rifle Club held a special shoot in preparation for the teams’ match to be held at Te Kuiti on Saturday. Occasional showers during the afternoon militated against good markmanship. The following were the best scorers: L. Palmer, 44, 47—91; K. McDonald, I 45, 46—91; E. Southall, 40, 42—88; ; Fred Hyde, 41, 45—8 G; J. Klein, 40, i 39—79; F. Thomas, 34, 42—76; 11. ! E. Lawrence, 41, 35 —76.
