STRAY SHOT
BULLET STRIKES TRAIN NO INJURIES RECEIVED SIR H. BATTERBEE A PASSENGER (By Telegraph.— Press Association) DUNEDIN, Thursday A startling incident occurred on the south-hound Christehurch-Invercargill express in the vicinity of Otaio, a bullet shattering a window of a firstclass carriage in which, it is believed. Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for Great Britain in New Zealand, was travelling. Splinters of glass fell on to the lap of a passenger sitting by the broken window, but he received no injuries. Although a search was made for the bullet at Dunedin, no trace of it could Lie discovered and a more thorough examination was to be made on the train's arrival at Invercargill. NOTHING SINISTER STRAY BULLET LIKELY (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Friday The authorities deprecate the unfortunate suggestion of some sinister implication because Sir Harry Batterbee chanced to be on I lie train struck by a bullet at Otaio yesterday. It is considered that it was a stray bullet from tiie rifle of someone shooting in paddocks screened from the railway by a heavy belt of trees.
