Copyright) NEW YORK, June 14 Two hundred and fifty convicts at the Kansas State Penitentiary staged a four-hour sit-down strike, demanding the right to wear silk underwear, permission to take sandwiches into their cells anil freedom to congregate in the cell block in the evenings. The prison authorities threatened to use tear gas and machine-guns to enforce discipline. The warden said silk undergarments worn under the coarse prison garb would be "completely out uf place.” The prisoners later surrendered.
