EMPIRE DAY
OBSERVANOE IN AUOKLAND GATHERING OF CITIZENS (My Telef rayh.—Press AssocKaiou) AUCKLAND, Wednesday An Empire Day ceremony was held at the Queen Victoria statue, AU>en Park at mid-day. A gathering of representative citizens followed the proceedings with close interest. The ceremony was arranged by the Central Committee of the Auckland patriotic societies. This was followed by another ceremony conducted by the Victoria League at the Maori War Memorial, Symonds Street, wreaths were laid on both memorials. The speakers at Albert Park were the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, Captain Parry, of H.M.S. Achilles and Mr H. T. Gibson, chairman of the committee. OBSERVED IN WELLINGTON * LORD BLEDISLOE'S MESSAGE (By T p l**zTapn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Empire Day was celebrated by laying wreaths at the foot of the Queen Victoria statue at noon by gatherings representing branches of the Victoria League, the Royal Empire Society and South African War Veterans. Mr Tripp president of the Wellington branch of the Empire Society read Lord Bledisloe'a message.
