BOXING

BOUTS IN AUCKLAND DON JOHNSON BEATS WILLIS WIN FOR GORDON (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday In a rather tame bout in the Auckland Town Hall last evening, the Auckland welter-weight, Don Johnson, defeated Merv. Willis, of Queensland, on points. Johnson carried most, of the attack and was also the superior fighter at close quarters, these factors gaining him the decision. The light-weight bout between Clarrie Gordon (Taranaki) and Bert McKay (Auckland) was won by the former. McKay’s left eyebrow was badly cut in the sixth round, and, after medical attention, he was declared unfit to continue- The match was a bright exhibition, in which Gordon showed himself te be a very snappy puncher with a speed superior to that of his opponent.
