OBITUARY
MRS. S. D. VICKERY The death occurred yesterday at her home in London Street of Mrs Susan Dawson Vickery, aged 57 years. Born in Dunedin, the late Mrs Vickery came to Hamilton from Gore 25 years ago. Recently she returned from several months’ holiday in the United States of America. While in Hamilton Mrs Vickery took an active part in various societies, particularly the Plunket Society, of which she was secretary and treasurer for several years. She was also interested in the Hamilton Lyceum Club and was a member of the committee for a considerable period. Always interested in art., she was treasurer of the Waikato Society of Arts at the time of her death. The late Mrs Vickery is survived by two daughters, Mesdames H. N, Hallett and N. D’Arcy Smith, of Hamilton. There are two grandchildren. Mr Vickery died about two years ago. MR JOHN HARPUR (Special to Times) OTOROHANGA, Tuesday. The death has occurred at his home at Hangatiki of Mr John Harpur, aged 84. My Harpur, who was the son of a pioneer whaler and a Maori chieftainess of the Ngatiahu, was born in Waimate, South Canterbury, and as a young man followed the sea for some years. Later however, he turned to sawmilling, which calling he followed at Invercargill, Hokitika. Greymouth, Dannevirke, Taranaki, Taihape and latterly Hangatiki. He settled in Hangatiki about'2l years ago. In his prime he was a noted athlete and footballer and was also interested in wrestling. Mr Harpur married in 1882 Miss Anne Elliott, of Dunedin, and he is survived by his wife and six children, Messrs. Rupert and Harry Harpur (Hangatiki), John Harpur (Arohena), William Harpur Mamakau) Mrs Vera Cavanagh (Rotorua), and Miss Mary Harpur (Kopaki). There are 40 grandchildren and 24 great-grand-children. The funeral service at St. Andrew’s Church, Te Kuiti, was conducted by the Re\%. S. W. Webber, of Otorohanga, and W. T. Brabvn. of Te Kuiti, Mr Webber conducting the service at the graveside.
