TRANS-TASMAN PLANS CO-OPERATION WITH AMERIOA p alternative routes (United Pres* Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Jan. 27, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 2 6 Mr Hudson Fysh, of the Imperial Airways, said that while the first new twenty-four ton flying boats destined for the Tasman service are about to be launched at Rochester and an additional two are being launched within a month, it did not necessarily mean that we will be able to fly them to Australia to begin the Tasman service immediately. The date of opening the service depends on the provision of adequate bases and the requisite radio services and navigational aids. Also an agreement was necessary under which the company would operate the new service. He added that the Pacific was increasingly important, both civilly and militarily. Britain and America were fully alive to the possibilities of cooperation, and according to reports from the t'nited States further aviation activities would be undertaken shortly in many of the north and south Pacific islands. We are surveying the possibilities of an extension of the LondonAucklanrl route to Fiji, and ultimately to San Francisco, thus linking with the trans-Canadi/i service and completing British airlines across the world. affording Australia and New Zealand alternative routes to London.
