BUTTER IN LONDON

DAISY BOARD'S ADVICE LARGE STOCKS IN STORE Only small quantities of New Zealand butter were available on the London market last week, according to the Dairy Board's latest report from London. The market for ail butters was slow throughout the past week. The New Zealand retail price was expected to advance to Is 3d per lb., but the Danish retail price was unchanged at Is sd. Stocks of all butters in store were estimated by the Imperial Economic Committee at 638,518 boxes, almost double the quantity held at the corresponding period last year, when thev amounted to 334,908 boxes. Deliveries of New Zealand from store were lower than the week before, being 1355 tons, compared with 2230 tons, and also lower than they were this time last year, when they were 1914 tons. Stocks of New Zealand in store were also lower at 4025 tons, compared with 4676 tons the week before, and with 4849 tons for the similar period last year. By arrangement with the Primary Products Marketing Department the New Zealand Dairy Board supplies the following information for the week ended January 20, figures for the previous week being given in parentheses:—

Butter.—New Zealand: Salted, 125 s to 126 s (123 s to 1245); unsalted, 127 sto 128 s, to 129 s (1265). Deliveries: New Zealand, 1355 tons (last year, 1914 tons) ; in store, 4025 tons (last year, 4849 tons). Australian: Salted, 121 s to 122 s (122 s to 1235); unsalted, 124 sto 125 s (123 s to 1245). Deliveries: Australian, 2249 tons (last year, 2373 tons) ; in store, 6795 tons Clast year, 2377 tons;. Argentine: Unsalted, 116 s to 118 s 116 s to 118 s). Danish, 117 s, f.0.b.; 138 s to 140 s spot (1225, 144 s to 1455). Dutch: Unsalted, 122 sto 1245, extra, 127 s (1245). Lithuanian: Unsalted, 126 s (120 s). Polish: Salted, 121 s; unsalted, 120 s to 121 s. South Africa: 118 s to 120 s (118 s to 120 s).

Cheese.—New Zealand: White and coloured, 69s 6d to 70s (70s). Deliveries: New Zealand, 9435 crates (last year, 15,654 crates) ; in store, 43,148 crates (last year, 50,985 crates). Australian: White, 62s to 65s 65s to 675); coloured, 64s to 66s (64s to 665). The market is quiet. The New Zealand retail price is unchanged at 9d per lb. Canadian: White, 72s to 74s (71s to 735); old season’s white, 80s (80s). Deliveries: Canadian, 6815 boxes last year, 7872 boxes) ; in store, 136,387 boxes (last year, 118,631 boxes). The market is steady. English: Finest farmers’, 84s to 96s 84s to 965); factory cheese, 63s to 66s (64s to 665). South African: White and coloured, 675. The market Is quiet.
