COUNCIL AND CHAMBER

BUBINESS MEN’S VIEWS

MATTERS OF LOCAL INTEREST The attitude of the Hamilton Borough Council to recommendations made by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce was the subject of comment in a lei ter received from the secretary to the chamber, Mr R. R. V*. Challiner, at the mectinjg of the council last evening. “I am in receipt of your letters of November 4,” wrote Mr Challiner, “advising that the council has ordered this chamber's letters relative to tiie sealing of Lake Drive and the question of the Franktou bathing beach to be received. “No indication is given that any action is to be taken in these matters and 1 am instructed to inquire whether the suggestions have been noted. In order to remove any misconception may I be permitted respectfully to point "Ut that the proffering of such suggestions as the above is authorised by the constitution of this chamber.” It was with regret, the leUer continued, that it was noted that the council did not agree to the borouph engineer addressing members of the chamber at its annua! meeting. As the chamber numbered among its members many of the largest ratepayers in the borough such an address would have been of great interest. The letter was received without comment.
