SUCCESSFUL MEETING LARGE BETTING INCREASE OCR WAR AT LONG ODDS One of the most successful gatherings in the history of the Auckland Trotting Club concluded at Epsom on Saturday when totalisator figures again showed a substantial increase and racing of a high standard was witnessed throughout. Of special interest was the match race between the Australian champion, Lawn Derby t and Van Derby, the latter prevailing over his companion in the record time of 2.1 1-5, both pacers being clocked to register the same time, Lawn Derby going off a couple of lengths behind his companion. Our War surprised in the chief event, while in the saddle race Whitstone prevailed over Our Summer and Alpine Prince. Conditions generally were ideal and the attendance was large. Racing along the back, Colonel Grattan had run up behind Harlequin and this pair was in charge from Icevus. Sandusky, and Our Peggy. Colonel Grattan led into the straight from Icevus, Sandusky and Our Peggy and carried on to win by two lengths from Sandusky, who accounted for Icevus by hair a length. Winner' trained by L. Laver, Epsom. Wbitstone, who was fairly well backed, led all the way to win, but he was strongly challenged over the last part by Our Summer, and only struggled home. Alpine Prince came home fairly well and was not Tar behind, but in elTect there were only two horses in it over the last half-mile. As they were racing down the straight, after a quarter or a mile had been covered, Lucky Love and True Trust fell. With a quarter-mile to go Whitstone was two lengths clear of Our Summer, and they were eight lengths clear of the rest of the field. Turning for home, Whitstone was a length in Tront, and a great race to the judge resulted in Wbitstone just getting there, with Alpine Prince third and Chili Bean fourth. W. Willetts, the rider of Lucky Love, w#s sent to hospital suffering, it is thought, from concussion. HUGE TOTALISATOR INCREASES The totalisator at Alexandra Park on Saturday handled £64,502 10s, compared with £35,148 100 for the concluding day of the meeting last year, an increase of £29,354. For the three days of the meeting the machines put through £189,844 los compared with £125,660 last season, an increase of £64,184 10s.
