YESTERDAY’S RESULTS MIBB HI. BEVERLEY WITHDRAWB INJURED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT (By TelegTtpb—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday Miss Margaret Beverley, Waikato holder of three titles, has been forced to retire from the annual New Zealand lawn tennis championship tournament because of slight injuries received in a motor-car accident yesterday. Miss Beverley was most unfortunate as she was playing at the top of her form. The Waikato players, D. Livingstone and J. Roach, were eliminated from the men’s doubles by Edwards and Dyer. Although he had a win in the first round in the men's singles, Roach was beaten by J. W. Gunn, of Auckland, in the third round, while Livingstone was eliminated by B. E. Souter, of Canterbury, in the first round. Quarter-finals Reached Four players have reached the quarter-finals of the men's singles and eight others will play to-day for the remaining four places.-Those who have reached the last eight are the defending champion, A. D. Brown (Canter- . bury), N. V. Edwards (Wellington), who defeated N. F. N. Bedford (Auckland), the eighth seeded player, N. G. Sturt (Auckland) and C. Angas (Canterbury).

The women's singles event has been reduced to eight competitors and two seeded players, apart from Miss Margaret 'Beverley have been eliminated. The defeat of Miss Nessie Beverley this afternoon by Miss H. Elsom was the biggest surprise of the tournament to date.
