MOTOR-CAR’S PLUNGE FIVE PEOPLE IN HOSPITAL (By Telegraph—Press Association) WANGANUI, Friday The first-aid equipment housed at Ike Kakalahi School, a small country , institution on Para para Road, was made good use of when a car plunged down Hiroti's Bluff, and the five occupants—Mr Bon Cadby. Miss Annie I Cadby. Mrs A. Svenson and Miss Margaret Campbell, of Tangataua, and Mr William Thompson, of Pokaka—were injured. Mr Thompson was severely cut about the neck, and Mr Cadby was also bleeding profusely. Mr E. N. Meredith, manager of Whiteman's station, obtained the first-aid material and applied his knowledge to good purpose, evidently saving the life of Mr Thompson, who was suffering from loss of blood. All five occupants were admitted to hospital.

FORTUNATE ESCAPE CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE MENACED BY HOT TAR Four people had fortunate escapes from serious injury when a motor-car and a tank-lorry weighing six and ahalf tons were involved in a collision on the Great South Road near Pokeno to-day. Both vehicles came to rest on j the grass at the side of the road, the j car standing in an almost vertical | position xvilh its hack wheels on the j tank of ihe lorry, -which contained 650 gallons of super-heated tar. Fortunately, the casing and valves of the tank proved strong enough to withstand the 4 impact, for the three Maori occupants of the car. unable to extricate themselves for some minutes, were penned in the vehicle immediately above the super-heated liquid. A young Maori girl passenger in the car suffered cuts and bruises, but was able to proceed after she had received attention from a nurse living near by. The other two occupants were the driver, Robert Nepia, and , Thomas Wiripo, of Whangamata. They and the driver of the lorry, Mr N. 11. Carson, of Auckland, escaped injury. GIRL CYCLIST'S DEATH NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday Gladys Gorner (11), daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Gomer, of Hawera. | died late last night as a result of injuries received when she fell from j her bicycle following a collision with another girl cyclist. She was taken home apparently uninjured, but later 1 could not be roused and died before she could be taken to hospital. PINNED BENEATH CAR Pinned under a two-seater motorcar which capsized after a collision with a larger vehicle at the intersec- < lion of Great South and Green Lane I Roads, Auckland, yesterday afternoon, Mr Edgar Walker 23), the driver,'and .Mien McCully 16 . struggled clear with only minor injuries. Both were taken to the Auckland Hospital for treatment, but later left.
