CANTERBURY TITLES MEN’S SINGLES TO MAYSON MISS M. BEVERLEY’S SUCCESS (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Every senior title but one changed hands at the Canterbury lawn tennis championship tournament which concluded to-day. Three of the five titles went outside the province. I
The tournament was dogged to the last by unfavourable weather for, although to-day was one of the few days on which play was not curtailed by rain, the semi-finals and finals had to be played in a howling northwesterly gale. Results:— Men’s Singles Final: J. T. Mayson beat Gunn, 6—i, 6-—4. Women’s Singles Final: Miss Margaret Beverley beat Miss D. Miller, 6—4. 6—l. Men’s Doubles Final: Gunn and Mayson beat Penfold and Pattinson, 9—7, 4—6, B—6. Women’s Doubles Final: Misses I. Poole and T. Poole beat Mrs G. B. Beatson and Miss K. Armstrong, 6—3, 6—3. Mixed Doubles Semi-fTnals: A. R. Cant and Miss I. Poole beat 'R. G. Pattinson and Miss K. Armstrong, 6 —3, 6—3 ; G. Angas and Miss T. Poole beat J. W. Gunn and Miss M. Beverley, B—6, 6—3. Final: Angas and Miss T. Poole beat Gant and Miss I. Poole, 6—l, 3—6, 6—2. CATHOLIC CHAMPIONSHIPS THE CONCLUDING RESULTS (By TelegTaph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday The Catholic Dominion tennis championships concluded to-day. There were keen contests. T. McGrath, who was to contest the final of the men's ■ singles with J. Leng had to default ‘ owing to injury. £ Results: Women’s Singles: Miss U. Amos beat Miss D. McCarthy, 6—3, 3 —6, Women’s Doubles: Misses A. and E. ’ McNeil beat Misses U. and N. Hickey, ; 6—3 6—2. Men’s Plate: F. Hepburn beat J. Me- ’ Dermott, 6—2. Women's Plate: Miss Williams beat > Miss Barnao, B—6.
