Bathrooms can be prevented from filling with steam if the cold water is allowed to run for a while before the hot is turned on. Canvas on deck chairs should be put on in the roller-towel fashion—then it can be moved round into different positions and prevent wear in one place. Do the glass stoppers in your bottles stick? Just rub on a few drops of glycerine and leave for a little while and they will come out quite easily. Roast duck: StufT this with a sage and onion mixture and serve with apple sauce, green peas and potatoes. Scissors which have become blunt can be sharpened by cutting up sandpaper into narrow strips. This method gives them a gocid “edge.” When ironing tucks in lingerie, pull them out straight and hold firmly, ironing lengthways until they are quite dry. Use peroxide on your draining-board if it has gone yellow. Put a few drops in some cold water and scrub the board well. Press woollens which have a smooth surface, such as flannel, on the right side, using a damp piece of muslin between the iron and the garment. Always stitch a pyjama belt or dressing-gown girdle to the centre back of the garment and it will not slip out of the slots. Flannel should be washed like other woollen garments. Add a little olive oil to the rinsing water to prevent it becoming hard. If you have too many lettuces and they are running to seed, try cooking them like cabbage. They are delicious. Linen which has become scorched can often be restored by rubbing it with a freshly cut onion. Afterwards It is soaked in a solution of cold water and peroxide of hydrogen. Quite an effective mahogany stain for floors can be achieved by dissolving a little permanganate of potash in a pint of warm water.
