CAUGHT IN THE ACT
BOOKMAKER AT ELLERSLIE FINE OF £25 IMPOSED (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday Interrupted by detectives in pencilling operations at Ellerslie on Wednesday, Marwood Dean (45), sawmiller, voluntarily appeared in the Police Court to-day on a charge of bookmaking. He pleaded guilty. The police said the operations were carried on on the hill in front of the totalisator. He had £2O in his possession and admitted taking bets. Justices fined Dean £25 or one month’s imprisonment.
