November When Joseph Harkins arrived at his | Boston villa late on Saturday night he | looked around for a safe place for the 1 day’s takings, slipped fifteen 100-dol-lar bills into the the telephone directory. says the Cavalcade. Early on Monday morning the telephone company's man delivered a new directory, carried off the old one. Joseph ’phoned the company, heard that the discarded volumes were piled in an Allston garage. He motored there hopefully. Then his heart slumped. There were 100,000 of those directories. At home Joseph mobilised his wife, his sister, her husband, a couple of nieces and nephews. For a week they took turns poring day and night through the volumes. On Sunday, after scrutinising 75,000, their diligence was rewarded. Weary, grimy, and dull-eyed they went hom° and splashed one of the bills in thanksgiving. Joseph has found a safer place for the rest.
