MATCH RACE ARRANGED It was announced prior to the commencement of the Epsom Handicap at Alexandra Park this afternoon that the Auckland Trotting Club had arranged a match race, for a purse of £3OO, to be run on Saturday between Lawn Derby and Van Derby. The race will be over one mile and will bo run after the fourth race on the programme. LAWN DERBY FAILS ATTEMPT ON RECORD AUCKLAND, Thursday The champion Australian pacer, Lawn Derby, in a special attempt today on the mile record for the Epsom trotting track, held by Nervis’* Last (2.4), was officially clockod to run 2.5 1-5. The champion was paced by Mohican, who set a galloping gait, and received an enthusiastic ovation at the completion of his run.
