WAIKATO CRICKETERS PROVINCIAL CHAMPfONBHIP POVERTY BAY WIN EASILY (Special to Times^ AUCKLAND, Thursday The Waikato eleven suffered ft 8 second defeat, in the Auckland Provincial cricket, championsh'p tournament yesterday, when it met Poverty Bay. Waikato won the toss and sent Poverty Ray in to bat on a perfect wicket. The result was that the term ran up the excellent, score of 341 f< r six and declared. Roth D. A. W*lls and M. Sharp scored centuries. Waikato were ail rant for 154, P. Bright top-scoring with 36. while Sharp took the bowling honours for Poverty Bay, securing five for 36. Scores:— POVERTY BAY—First Innings E. NORTH AUCKLAND BEATEN Auckland were too strong for North Auckland and won by 74 on the first innings. North Auckland batted first and scored 125 (N. Vipond 56, Burke seven for 43). Auckland replied with 199 for six 'declared), (J. R. Johnson 62. C. Burke 48, C. G. Walters 36). Batting again, Northland lost six wickets for 119 (N. Vipond 43. Burke four for 48). Scoring 221 to their opponents' 109, Watson’s Colts defeated Suburban outright. A. Wiles was the best Colts batsman, making 109, while J. Elliott assisted with 30. Hitchcock secured three wickets for 28. Suburban’s total was helped considerably by a 43 from R. Robinson. Bentley was the main Colts bowler, taking six for 36 and when Suburban were put out for 83 in their second knock he took eight for 30. HAMILTON LOSE COUNTRY WEEK TOURNEY PUKEKOHE’S GREAT BATTING (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Thursday An excellent opening partnership by the Pukekohe team paved the way for their victory by an innings and 73 runs over Hamilton in the Country Week tournament yesterday. Pukekohe had two wickets down for 254 and declared, Lawrie making 100 not out and Blake 109, retired. Hamilton were all out for 73, Gall (17) being the only batsman to reach double figures. Oien took four for 25. Batting again, Hamilton was dismissed for 108, Senior making a good 49 and T. Ganiev 20. Johnson held the bowling honours for Pukekohe, taking four for 52.
