SUNSHINE AND OIL

PREVENTION FROM BURN

CHILDREN AT PORT WAIKATO HAPPY TIME IN THE SURF Schooldays and a bleak King Country winter are probably conducive to bleached skins and if backs are a little white the sunshine of summer takes its toll. On Tuesday Port Waikato greeted summer In no uncertain manner and officials of the Waikato Children’s Camp League took no chances to allow the hot sun to bring discomfort to the 150 King Country children who are now in their final week of vacation. Sunshine signalled oil-time and the officials were kept busy all the early part’’of the afternoon smearing the backs of the children to prevent sunburn. It was a necessary precaution, but just one of the little things in the routine of the Port Waikato camp which testifies to the efficiency of the League and the care which the officials reveal in their duties of caring for tho holiday-makers. It meant a great deal of work for those in charge but reward was given when the children seen enjoying the brilliant sunshine, safe from the strong rays'reflected from the hot, sparkling sands. It was real swimming weather and not one of the children is suffering from burns or even a cold, despite the unseasonable weather during the first week of holiday. Hamilton Boys and Girls Yesterday was brilliantly fine at Port Waikato and another oiling was given the children before they enjoyed their first swim in the morning. Swimming was on the programme again in the afternoon and the children were full of spirits in the water in such glorious weather. On Tuesday there were several visitors from Hamilton, Ngaruawahia and Auckland. On Wednesday, January i, the King Country children will return from the camp and 150 Hamilton children will depart for a fortnight's holiuay. The children from Hamilton will leave the town at G. 30 a.m. next Wednesday.
