However, the English team still has a first .innings lead of 32, having scored 422 in their initial outing. Batting again to-day, England lost one wicket for 103 runs when stumps were drawn. A fine century by Dalton was mainly responsible lor the home team's recovery, and he was/ably assisted by Mitchell (73;, Yiljoen (50;, and Langton (64 not out;. Verity was the most successful English bowler, taking four wickets for 61 runs. Mitchell batted for 240 minutes. lie was a model of sound defence

Viljoen and Dalton, after a cautious start, became well set and added 70 in an hour, Viljoen batting for 162 minutes, when he played on to his wicket. Dalton's century occupied 201 minutes. Langton Unconquered Langton was unconquered after 36 minutes at the wickets. He hit two sixers.
