Dec. 27 Four persons were drowned at surf beaches to-day, three at the south coast resort of Austinmere and one at Long Reef. The Austinmere victims were a young man aged about 23, a girl of about 18 and a boy. The body of the boy has not been recovered. Several others were rescued. Tile Long Reef victim was a young man who was drowned when a launch overturned after drifting on a reef.

Copyright) (Received Dec. 28, 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 28 A boy aged seven years was drowned in Newcastle harbour, and a youth aged 19 years was lost in the surf at the mouth of the Bellinger, river. It Is believed he was taken by a shark. No lives were lost on the patrolled beaches, oil which IGI lives were saved in major rescues with reel, line and belt during the four days and hundreds of minor rescues were effected.
