HARD RUBBER AND ELASTIC STEEL The Frenchman, James Basset, has invented a method of exposing rubber to a pressure of 6000 atmospheres so that it becomes so hard as to stamp a steel-plate, and by exposing steel to the same pressure it can be as elastic as rubber.
