MARKET AT MORRINSVILLE

FrRM DEMAND FOR PIQS BEEF IN STEADY (REQUEST Firm values ruled in most sections at the weekly Morrinsville stock sale yesterday, although buying operations were not marked by any enthusiasm. Yardings were lighter to average with quality in most departments below the standard of the previous week. The penning of fat cattle consisted mainly of dairy sorts, which proved in steady request at rates usually on a par with late quotations, £8 7s proving the limit for top quality descriptions. A few pens of steers were forward, cattle from Messrs Howie Bros, again making top money, prime medium steers from these vendors clearing from £l4 5s to £ls Is. A line of light Friesian steers sold at £lO 10s. Boner cattle sold steadily with no noticeable alteration in values. Quiet Dairy Market

Competition was restrained for dairy cattle and sales were for the most part effected on the lower basis of recent sales. A large proportion of the entry comprised inferior quality sorts which were difficult to trade. A few top quality sorts made to £l2, but the bulk of the sales were made below £9. A light entry of fat sheep was in quiet request and the big proportion of the penning comprising U?ht hoggets which changed hands from las Gd to 21s. Fat pigs were forward in the largest numbers since the commencement of the new season. A ready demand was experienced with values again slightly firmer than schedule rales. Top price for medium baconers was 765, porkers making to 61s. In the store section, competition was slow and both slips and weaners were cheaper. The auctioneers quote as follows: — Loan and Mercantile Agency Cattle. —Light fat ox £lO 10s to £lO 15s, heavy Jersey cows £7 5s to £7 15s, medium £6 10s to £7 2s 6d, lighter £5 15s to £6 2s 6d, fat heifers £7 to £B, lighter £6 2s 6d to £6 12s 6d, killable cows £5 to £5 12s 6d, heavy store cows £4 5s to £4 12s 6d, lighter conditioned £3 12s 6d to £4, heavy boners £2 18s to £3 10s, lighter £1 10s to £2 ss, cull cows 15s to 22s 6d, medium quality yearling Jersey heifers £3 10s to £3 17s 6d, small up to £2 10s, Shorthorn steers up to £5 10s, grade Jersey bulls £6 12s 6d to £lO, yearlings £5 to £5 10s.
