AGRICULTURAL ABBOCIATION Mr J. Landells presided over a meeting of the executive of the Matarnata Agriculi tural and Pastoral Association. A report read by the secretary stated that the dates of the following- shows were approved at the annual conference or affiliated A. and P. Associations held at i Auckland: Matarnata. March 4; Morrinsville, March 8, Putaruru, March 25. It i was agreed that the usual donations of £2 2s each he made to the Matarnata Citizens’ Band and the Matarnata Ambulance Brigade It was decided to vote £lO 10s towards i the expenses of the Royal Show. BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY A meeting of the Matarnata Beautifying Society was held recently, the Rev. j. H. Coomhes presiding over a good attendance. Mr F. 11. Holmes was appointed secreAftcr discussing a suitable scheme to mark the 1040 centennial, it was decided to recommend the Matarnata Centennial Committee to order least 1000 native trees to beautiry the town. The chairman commented on a report drawn up by a sub-committee on work necessary in Matarnata for this winter, and it was decided to purchase sufficient Phoenix palms to complete the area in Tamlh&na street. RAINFALL IN AUGUBT Recordings kept by Mr E. Maclntyre, of .Matarnata, show that the rainfall for August was 0.27 inches. This is the heaviest fall for August since 1920. when 7.7 9 inches fell. The heaviest fall in one day ia-t month was on the 27th, when 1.02 inches fell.
