With half the distance covered Mute went up very rast and was In third position behind Tommy Boy and Swordsman as they raced for the back stretch the last time. Turning into the straight Mute. Tommy Boy and Swordsman were In line ahead of Win Huon. Swordsman then ran to the front and ■went on to win very comfortably by a length from Win Huon, who finished Btronglv to beat Tommy Boy by threequarters of a length. Stargum, always handily placed, went a good race to win the Mount Eden Handicap in which the ravourite, Scottish Bard, was never prominent. Marcus and Stargum were together as they raced Into line and when straightened up Stargum took the lead and went on to score very easily from Kewpie’s Bingen, who finished well, with Marcus right np third. The favourite was again beaten in the Orakel Handicap when True Trust, who led from end to end. held on long enough to atave oJT a challenge from Forest Jewel. Parauri. the ravourite, was slow in getting •way and finished third. True Trust was early In the lead but only showed a length clear or Ran Turly Lass and Forest Jewel after they had covered a quarter of the distance. Parauri was quite handy to the two leaders as they turned out of the srrais-ht. but entering the back broke badly. True Trust, at this stage, was a length and a hair clear of Forest Jewel with Ranfurly Las* and Parauri eight lengths Turther back, followed by Lucky Love and Lady Amanda. As they raced Tor the straight True Trust was going comfortably a length in front or Forest Jewel, with Ranrurly Lass and Lucky Love dropping out or it. Forest Jewel challenged True Trust and Parauri made a determined effort on the outside, but True Trust had sufficient in reserve to win by a neck rrom Forest Jewel, who beat Parauri by a similar distance Lucky Love was fourth and Lady Amanda fifth. Again the favourite, Sandusky, was never a danger and failed to fill a place. Ouid Hairst went to the front immediately aTter the *tart. and was a length clear of Vanora. who was closely followed bv Musketeer. Sir Frank and Compass as they raced to the back stretch. At this stage Sandusky was heading a bunch, but •was in a handy position to the leaders. The order was the same as they entered on the last part of the journey, but Vanora then ran to the front and was acclaimed the winner. He was well cioar in the straight, when Compass came with a great run on the outside to win wen from Vanora, who tried in the last Turlong.
