ATTACKS ON BRITISH SHIPPING HEATED DEBATE LIKELY IN COMMONS MINISTER’S ADVICE NOT TO PROVOKE THE NATION ‘'Official Wireless) (Received June 14. 11 a.m.' RUGBY, June 13 To-morrow the House of Commons will consider the question of the bombing of British ships in Spanish waters, which will be raised by a private notice question from Mr C. R. Attlee, Leader of the Opposition. The press generally expects that the debate will be heated, for the bombing has continued incessantly since before the House of Commons adjourned for the Whitsun recess. Sir Thomas Inskip, speaking at Hatfield, referred to the attacks on British ships in Spain. He said that there was not very much that he thought it right to say, for the reason that the matter was in the capable hands of the Prime Minister and Viscount Halifax. “Any fool can make trouble out of the situation,” he said, “but it requires great qualities, of which we have not been disappointed, to preserve our rights without, I hope, any interference or alteration of the policy which we have deliberately adopted of non-intervention in Spain. You know it is difficult to provoke the British nation. All I can say is that anybody who is inclined to try had better not.”
