The Governor-General, Lord Galway. concluding bis term of residence at Government House. Auckland, left last night for Christchurch. Mr E. J. Phelan, the No. 1 Licensing Authority, visited Hamilton to-day. Sergeant J. T. McGrath, clerk of the Hamilton police district, will leave this evening for Christchurch on promotion. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour, who was in Cambridge last evening, left later for Te Kultl. The Hon. P. Fraser. Minister of Education, visited Cambridge yesterday and later left for Auckland. Mr W. Chegwidden. of Hamilton, left Auckland to-day by the Niagara on a two months’ visit to Fiji and the Pacific islands. Dr. H. E. Annett, of Hamilton, and Dr. W. R. Lawrence, of Te Aroha, were guests at the weekly luncheon of the Auckland Rotary Club yesterday. Inspector J. Sweeney, of Wellington, and formerly of Hamilton, has arrived in Hamilton in connection with the mystery of the missing Hindu at Taharoa. i
Messrs G. F. Keene. 11. A. Rowse, W. A. L. Ward, B. L. Orr, H. Cameron Auckland), R. F. Hogg (Ilunterville), T. Thomson. A. J. Cameron Wellington). and S. Addenbrook (New Plymouth), are at the Hamilton Hotel. The Rev. Dr. Thomas, a prominent minister of Chicago, will arrive In Auckland by the Monterey on July 8 to take charge of the Chalmers Presbyterian Church, Timaru, until the arrival of the new minister, the Rev. Malcolm Wilson, of York, England. Mr N. E. Hutchings, chief clerk to the Public Works Department, has been appointed assistant under-sec-retary of the department, a post he has been filling temporarily. Mr* Hutchings was for many years private secretary to successive Ministers of Public Works. Dr. W. R. Lawrence, of Te Aroha, was admitted in the grade of Serving Brother at an investiture at Government House. Auckland. yesterday when several officers of the Order of Bt. John of Jerusalem were presented by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, with insignia. Mr K. D. White, of Putaruru, was re-elected the member for the Okorolre riding on the Matamata County Council. when the poll was held yesterday. Mr White obtained 149 votes and the other eandidates. Messrs N. L Higglnson and G. \v. Seton. received 124 vote* and none respectively.
