OBITUARY

MR THOMAS STREET The death occurred in Hamilton yesterday of Mr Thomas Street, of Paekakariki, aged 81 years. Mr Street was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Richard Street. New Plymouth. two of New Zealand's earliest settlers. They arrived in 1840 on the sailing-ship Oriental. Deceased was a bridge contractor some years ago ami was responsible for the construction of several bridges for the' defunct Munawatu Railway Company. When the railway was opened, Mr Street, joined the company as bridge inspector and was re-engaged when thd concern was taken over by the Government at the beginning of the century. He retired about 17 years ago. The late Mr Street is survived by one son. Mr T. D. Street Hamilton and four daughters. Mesdames I, Smith Paekakariki . \v. g-Raiir Wellington . McLaren and Miss N.
