JAPAN’S REQUEBT REFUSED ADMIRAL S SHARP REJOINDER (United Press As*n.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received June 13. 3.15 p.m.) SHANGHAI, June 12 Rear-.Vlmlral Yarnell sharply rejected Japan's demand that American foreign shipping evacuate the kiang River above Wuhu, declaring that the American Navy will go wherever .Americans are in danger. Rear-Admiral Yarnell also refused the Japanese suggestion to paint American warships “ scarlet or some other colour." Though a bombardment by 60 warships covered the landing of Japanese detachments on the north and south banks of the Yangtse-klang River near Nanking, the Chinese drove them back to their boats. English arid American cunboats are standing by between Nanking and Hankow.
