JOINT CONTROL
PACIFIC IBLANDS BRITAIN AND UNITED STATES AIR SERVICE ARRANGEMENTS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, June 10 The exchange of despatches between London and Washington continues in an endeavour to complete the negotiations for British and American joint jurisdiction over Enrierbury and Canton Islands under a sharecontrol system, says the Australian Associated Press. It is also hoped to reach a settlement regarding other Pacific islands to enable preparations for separate trans-Pacific air services to be commenced. Britain shortly will commence colonising the Phoenix Islands, including Canton and Enderbury. by transference of natives from the .Gilbert and Ellice Islands. This Is disclosed in a memorandum I® be submitted to Parliament accompanying the Colonial Office estimates, in which the High Commissioner for Ihe Western Pacific, Sir \. R. Richards. outlines the results of his examination for relieving the over-popula-tion of the Gilbert and F.llice Island*. The memorandum stales that tho Phoenix Islands—one of the main groups concerned in the air services —offer good prospects for colonisation. and an early commencement of the transfer of natives is intended.
