Tel; Copyright) (Received May 11, 3-15 p.m.) LONDON, May 10 The Australian cricketers easily defeated Leicestershire to-day by an Innings and 163 runs, this making their third successive victory. The New Zealander, C. S. Dempster, had the honour of scoring the first century against the tourists. When stumps were drawn yesterday Leicester, who had compiled 212 in their first innings had lost five wickets for 107 runs in their second
while Australia had declared their innings closed with five wickets down for 590 runs. The county's second innings closed to-day tVr 213. Dempster (50 not out)..playing with rocklike defence, was often in difficulties when the game was resumed to-day and was half-an-hour before adding to his score. Dowen was scoring steadily when he was out leg before to O’Reilly. Dempster reached his century in ITS minutes and five minutes later lifted Ward Into Badcock’s hands. He played a persistent and chanceless but not a really distinguished innings and hit 14 fours. The Next Match The Australian cricketers will play their next match against Cambridge University and then the strenuous part of their tour will commence with a match against M.C.C. at Lord’s on Saturday. The 193 4 Australian team easily defeafed Cambridge by an Innings and 163 rims. The visitors complied 481 for five wickets declared (W. H. Ponsford 229, not out, W. A. Brown 105 and L. S. Darling 98). Cambridge were dismissed for 158 (Grimmett nine for 74: and for 160 In their second innings. Wall, Ebeling, Flcetwood-Smith and Darling sharlns the wickets. The first Test will commence at Nottingham on June 10, the second at Lord’s on June 24, the third at Manchester on July 8. the fourth at Leeds on July 22 and the fifth and final Test at the Oval on August 20.
