PUBLIC WORKB MINISTER LABOUR-SAVING OPERATIONS (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday j An outline of his accomplishments Jas Minister of Transport and Public 'Works was given toy the Hon. R. ! Semple when speaking at a meeting ! here. He declared that any Govern- ; meat which failed to keep pace with the march of discovery and invention i was doomed to perish. There was ; nothing destructive about a policy i which exploited the inventive genius of 'man for the benefit of mankind. , The Minister said he had no apology > for trying to save lives on the high- | ways, and eo&ld take credit for the ‘fact that New Zealand was the only I country showing an increase in the number of motor-cars and at the same time a decreasing fatal accident list, j Films taken on various public works jobs with close-ups of modern machinery at work were screened by Mr Semple, who declared that they were there to take the heaviest and dirtiest 'work off the shoulders of the men to save the country thousands of pounds and to get jobs done faster. A resolution was passed by the meeting pledging its loyalty to the | Labour Government. «
