RUGBY FOOTBALL

ENTHUSIASM REVIVED SENIOR TEAM FOR CITY RECORD MEETING OF SUPPORTERS Prospects of a record season for Hamilton Rugby this year were ? considerably enhanced at the annual meeting of the City Football Club when there was a record attendance of over 100 players and supporters. It- is many years since such a large gathering attended a football meeting in Hamilton and with every prospect of the City Club entering a senior team this year the season.is being looked forward to with the greatest confidence. Mr C. Christie, who was president of the club when it was the champion club in Hamilton for many years, was ! again in the chair. The annual report disclosed that although the club j had only been resuscitated for two seasons it had received such strong support that there was every prospect of the maroon jersey again being 6een on the senior playing fields of Hamilton. Last season the third grade team won the Thomas Tyne Memorial Cup. while the fourth grade team won both the championship and knock-out cups, playing altogether 15 games without a single defeat being recorded against them. The Junior team played exceptionally well, being runners up in the championship series, while in the knock-out competition they were only defeated once. The balance sheet showed the club to be in a very financial position, the credit balance being £2O 18s 9d. Eleotlon of Offloers The following officers were elected: —Patron. Mr R. Pike; president, Mr C. Christie, senr.; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Jordan. E. IL. Smith, H. Rotherham. F. Williams, J. Brain, and all last year's vice-presidents; management committee, Messrs W. Timms, it. Johnston, C Smythe, F. Buckingham, B. Brant, R. Jones, G. Hopcraft, D. Cann, E. R. Smith. R. Kirby. A. Hubbard, R. Gillies. G. Burns; hon. secretary, Mr R. Hooper; assistant-secretary, Mr M. Crump; club captain. Mr A. Buckingham; delegate Junior Board, Mr C. Smythe; delegate Hamilton Bugby Union, Messrs W. Timms. F. Buckingham, R. Hooper; club roaches, senior. Mr A. Buckingham; thirds, Mr C. Smythe. fourth. A. Mr A. Hooper, fourth B. Mr L. Fink; social committee, Messrs B. Moran. F. Penrose. S. Stevenson. H. Rotherham, R. Gillies. A. Hubbard, R. Kirby. R. Jones, G. Hopcraft, J. Ladd, D. Cann. It was decided to leave the discussion of the notices brought forward by the Hamilton Rugby Union to the management committee. The entry of teams was also left to the management committee, but it was stated that it was anticipated that six teams would take the field. Over 40 new players registered at the meeting including a number of prominent senior players. BURDEN ON FINANCES RUGBY UNION’S RATES VRAtfKTON CLUB’S VIEWS Concern was expressed at the annual meeting of the Frankton Rugby Football Club at the large amount represented by rates and rent in the annual expenditure of the Hamilton i Rugby Union. The matter was raised ! when the union's balance sheet, was ! being considered. Mr J. 5. Lynch presided over an attendance of over 60 members, in the absence of the president, Mr A. J. Denz. In connection with the rates and rent question it was decided to go into the matter with the union to see if the amount expended in this way could be reduced. It was thought that the amounts levied were an unduly heavy drain on the finances of the union in view of the fact that Rugby Park was used solely for amateur sport and considering that £3500 had been expended by the union in bringing the ground to its present 6tate. The annual report of the club showed that the season nad been very successful both from the point of view of playing standard and finance. The senior team had been runners-up for the Stag trophy and the club as a whole had tied for the points prize. A credit balance of £3l was shown in the balance sheet. A letter from Mr Denz,- president of the club, stated that as he had now left the district he would not be available as an officer during the ensuing year. The letter was received with regret. The subscription was fixed as for last year and it was decided to hold the first training night, on April 5 and to conduct the first Saturday practice on April P. Wilcox, J. S. Lynch, A.. Burgess. C. Oxenham. L. Denz and R. Anderson: club captain. Mr E. Everest; conches. Mr A. St. C. Belcher fsenior), Smillie junior', S. Paget (third grade), J.
