MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES I _____ STRICT PRECAUTIONS TAKEN PASSENGERS AND CREW AFFECTED United Press Assn.—Elec. rel. Copyright (Received April 1, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 31. A mysterious illness on the Stratheden resulted in the strictest precautions being taken on the arrival of the liner at Plymouth. A purser's assistant was put ashore at Malta apparently suffering from typhoid. A passenger, Mr Charles Mewby, of London, died during the voyage, the death being officially attributed to heart failure. He was buried at sea. Other passengers and members of the crew showed feverish symptoms. Only the customs and medical officials were permitted on board at Plymouth until 'a dozen invalids had been examined, but when the doctors were satisiled that there were no virulent cases some visitors were allowed to go aboard. The passengers on landing received medical Inspection.
