PIAKO ASSOCIATION PROSPECTS FOR SEASON (Special to Times.) MORRJNSVILLE, Thursday. Good prospects for the coming reason were reported at the annual meeting of the Plako Hockey Association, which comprises clubs iu the Morrinsville and Te Aroha districts. Although the Mangateparu men’s club will not be fielding a team this year the players from that district will be Joining up with the Morrinsville club, which expects to have two teams. Mr 11. D. Ilastle, who has been secretary or the association for many years, was elected president In succession to Mr A. G. Yardley, who intimated his desire to retire after four years in office. Appreciation was expressed of Mr Yardley’s work, especially as during his term of office Piako was visited by the Australian, AllIndia and Taranaki touring teams, and this called Tor special organising work by the president. The election of olTlcers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr \v. s. Goosman; president, Mr 11. D. Hastie; vice-presidents, Messrs C. A. Ferguson, A. G. Yardley, D. R. F. Campbell and Dr. 8. Martin; secretary, Mr E. Stirling; treasurer. Miss E. Arndt; management committee. Misses L. Meelc. U. Harris. E. Belsey, Messrs 11. Crickett and N. Rigden; emergency committee, Messrs E. Stirling, 11. crickett and H. K. Heaton; referees’ appointment committee. Messrs H. Bloomfield and R. R. Heaton; delegates to Auckland Hockey Association, Miss G. Lowe and Mr N. Vipond. It was decided to open the season on April 30 with a seven aside tournament for men’s teams and matches under seven aside rules for full teams of ladies. The association has a credit balance of £26. Discussion on the question of seeking a match with the Indian team this year terminated in a resolution leaving the matter in the hands of tlie management committee to consider whether a mid-week match would be successful. The 1935 Indian team played at Morrinsville and attracted a record gate for a winter sport. MORRINSVILLE LADIES’ CLUB Officer* elected at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Ladies’ Hockey Club were as follows: —Patron, Mr D. R. F. Campbell; president, Mr E. Fenton; vicepresidents, Messrs. \v. Kennedy. J. l. \rndt and J. A. Marshall; secretary and treasurer. Miss L. Meek; captain. Miss E. Arndt; vice-captain, Miss N. King.
