LODGINGS REFUSED

HOTEL LICENSEE FINED “AN EXCEPTIONAL CASE ” (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Described by Sub-Inspector Packer as a rather rare case in Christchurch, Thomas Thomson was charged in the Magistrate's Court this morning that being the licensee of the Southern Cross Hotel he failed to supply lodgings when requested to do so. Thomson pleaded guilty and was fined £1 by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. Mr Packer said a traveller went to the hotel to seek accommodation for two relatives and was refused, inquiries revealed that there were no lodgers at the time. Apparently difficulty was caused by the fact that the housekeeper was away. Counsel said it was an exceptional case. There were only two occasions in the last 12 months when accommodation had been asked for. Only night accommodation was sought. The housekeeper was absent under unusual circumstances.
