BRITAIN AND FRANCE
IN CLOSE CONSULTATION STATEMENT BY PREMIER (omclal Wireless) RUGBY, March 3 In the House of Commons to-day Mr G. Mander (Liberal—Wolverhampton East) asked the Prime Minister, Mr Chamberlain, whether France had been consulted by Britain and had agreed with the view that under existing conditions the collective system of the League of Nations could not be considered as operative regarding Article 16 of the Covenant, and whether France had been consulted about, and agreed to, negotiations between Britain, France, Germany and Italy, and excluding Russia, for a general European settlement. Mr Chamberlain replied that there was no proposal at present so far as he was aware of the kind to which Mr Mander referred. Britain intended, as in the past, to remain in close consultation with France in all matters of common concern to the two Governments.
