GOLDEN WEDDING
MR AND MRS J. H. FORD CELEBRATION AT TAURANGA The golden wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs J. H. Ford was celebrated at the residence of their eldest son, Mr John Ford, of Tauranga, recently. A delightful wedding breakfast had been prepared. The tables were beautifully decorated with golden flowers. The Rev. G. P. Hunt presided, and the usual toasts were honoured. Numerous gifts were received by the guests-of-honour, and many letters and telegrams were received during the day. Mrs Ford, who was wearing a chocolate brown ensemble with gold trimmings, was presented with a beautiful bouquet, the presentation being made by Mrs Ford’s greatgranddaughter, little Heather Smith, of Opunake. Included among the guests were Mr and Mrs Ford’s four children, Mrs J. Barney, of Hotel Manor, Mr J. G. Ford, Mr Ernest A. Ford, of Fairfax, California (who had returned to New Zealand especially for the occasion), and Mrs Harold Finlay, of Ilawera. Mrs W. Millard, of Raurimu, another daughter, was unable to be present. Among the visitors were Mr and Mrs A. Eade. of Feilding, and Mr W. Abraham, of New Plymouth. There are fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The wedding of Mr and Mrs Ford took place in Sydney on February 11, 1888, the bridesmaid and best man being Miss Mary Ford and Mr W. Ford, who are still living in Sydney. Mr and Mrs Ford returned to New Zealand in 1892 and lived in Palmerston North for some years, moving later to Cambridge and then to Wanganui in 1907. They went to Tauranga in 1935.
