MOK. THE MALE GORILLA A GREAT PUBLIC FAVOURITE 'Time? Air Mail Service) LONDON, January 15 Mok. the London Zoo’s male gorilla, died last night after nine weeks’ ill-, ness, says Ihe News Chronicle. Dr O. M. Yevers. Superintendent of the Zoological Society, stated that Mok was about 9 i years old. lie weighed nearly 25st last September. "We had hopes of his recovery when he started taking nourishment two or three days ago," said Dr Yevers last night, "but to-day he had a sudden relapse.” Mok and Moina—his ‘ perfect wife" —were bought for the Zoo In 1932 for £I2OO, but a few weeks ago Dr. Yevers said that they would not part with them for £IO,OOO each. Mr Seth Smith, Curator of Mammals at the Zoo, broadcasting last night, said that Mok had been regarded almost as a human friend by many hundreds of visitors to the Zoo, and hundreds of letters had been received giving suggestions for treatment.
