Copyright (Received Feb. 16, 3 p.m.; SYDNEY, Feb. 16 Blows were struck in an encounter between Noel Stanford, the Trinidad Empire Games representative, and a member of the South African team at the Empire village last night. It was the culmination of the bad feeling which has existed between the South Africans and the Trinidad men since the teams first started training. Police intervention prevented a fight in the road outside the quarters when Stanford was holding four South , Africans at bay with a handful of ! stones. Stanford had been nearly stunned by a blow on the side of the face. There were threats in some of the camps of raiding the South Africans’ quarters, and a large force of police was on duty all night. Copyright SYDNEY, Feb. 15 The British team of riflemen displayed brilliant markmanship to-day to win the E/npire teams’ match from Australia'by 23 points. New Zealand was third. The totals were: Britain, 2260 points; Australia, 2237; New Zealand, 2226; South Africa, 2207. The weather was cool and overcast, and the British competitors took full advantage of the conditions. The New Zealanders had the lowest total at 800 yards. Most of the team shot well, but the failure of Croxton allowed the South Africans to displace New Zealand from third place. New Zealand, however, recovered well in the 900 yards , equalling tlip range total of Britain with 376 points and enabling the team to retrieve third place behind Australia. The New Zealanders’ scores in the three stages were: Bowes, 47, 49, 45: Wrigley, 49, 48, 44: West, 49. 49. 48; Farley, 49, 49, 47; Soler, 48, 48, 45; Jeune. 46, 45, 45; Nichol. 49, 46. 3i; Croxton, 44, 42, 40.
