DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR
YOUNG MEN IN COURT VICTORIA STREET INCIDENT Charged with disorderly behaviour while drunk in Victoria Street on Saturday, Allen William Uren (20) butcher, and Eric Temple (25) labourer, appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to-day. Uren was also charged with resisting Constable G. Tait, when being arrested. Temple was represented by Mr A. W. Ppwell. The two accused, stated Seniorsergeant G. H. Lambert, were going up Victoria Street} fcrm-in-arm and were making a considerable amount of noise. They were cautioned by a constable and replied by using threatening language, whereupon the constable arrested them. He put Uren In a taxi and then put Temple in but Uren went out of the other door and took to his heels. When overtaken he resisted arrest. Temple had not been before the court before but Uren was on probation, said the Senior-sergeant. For Temple, Mr Powell stated that according to the story told by both youths, the altercation with the constable had not been as serious as made out by the police. Asked by the magistrate if he had anything to say, Uren sai dhe had not meant to resist arrest by running away. lie had merely done so to show that he was nqt intoxicated. "You had better be more careful of the company you keep, and it might be as well if you kept out of hotels on Saturdays,” said the magistrate to Temple, in imposing a fine of £1 and costs up on him. Uren was fined £1 on the first charge and for resisting arrest was fined £3.
