ANNUAL MEETING BEGINS FLOODLIGHT IN HIGHWEIGHT CUP TO RONA BAY (Special from “Martian”) ROTORUA, Saturday The annual meeting of the Rotorua Racing Club opened to-day in showery weather before a good attendance. Floodlight., after being always handily placed, finished on resolutely to win attractlvely and pay over a quarter of a century on the win machine. British Banner also finished attractively while Racewhlp, too, was responsible ror a meritorious performance. _ , a Dombey and Long Span were the leaders going past the stands, from Miss Mestor, BeTbronev, General Ruse, and Floodlight, with Slwel and British Banner at the head of the others. Dombey and Long Span were still on terms five furlongs from home and going across the top were followed by Floodlight, Miss Mestor, Belbroney and Locknlt. There was little alteration in the order or the field as they approached the turn but in a good finish Floodlight came through to win by half a length from British Banner, who finished solidly to beat Racewhlp by a neck. Long Span was fourth, in front or General Ruse, Sockettes, Miss Mestor and Night Spl. Time, 1.54 3-5.

The favourite, Prtval, attempted to win from end lo end hut he was outstayed over the Jast 20 yards hy Tralee Rose who finished attractively to score at doublefigure odds. School Song, who was caught In the tapes, did not go away too well and Prival led early rrom Tralee Rose. Tementi and Aynho. Hair-a-mlle from home Prival was out Just clear of Aynho, this pair being followed at this stage hy Tralee Rose, Galloping Acre, Tementi and School Song. Racing to the turn, Prival was still In charge of affairs, with Aynho, Galloping .\cre, Tralee Rose, School Song and Tementl In that order of the others. In a good finish, Tralee Rose wore down the leader to heat Prival by hall'-a-head, with Aynho a length and a-half away third. Galloping Acre was fourth, followed by School Song and Town Section, with a gap of about 20 lengths to Spearford. Time, 1.19.

Winner trained by owners, opotiKi. Llangollen scored his second successive win this season when he ran right away Trom the Held to win with something in reserve. Glen Abb went a solid race while Miss Te Koura, who had every chance, failed to see It out. Te Monowal hit the front when they were fairly on their way, showing out at the half-mile from Miss Te Koura, Llangollen. May Song. Chief Lap. Ellanui, Gay Sister, Professional and Winlona. Miss Te Koura had taken up the running going across the top and was out two lengths here from Llangollen, with three lengths to May Song and Te Monowal and Chief Lap four lengths farther back In front of Ellanui. There was no alteration In the order as they turned for home, Llangollen coming through and carrying on to win very decisively by two and a-half lengths from Glen Abb, who beat Miss Te Koura by half a length. Chler Lap was rourth, then followed Te Monowal, May Song Gay Sister. Ellanui, Professional, British Banner and Hopalong. Time, 1.18 1-5. ROTORUA CUP HANDICAP Of £400; 11 miles 1 — I —RONA BAY. Mrs C. Rona Bay fully endorsed her good form of Thames by leading from end to end and winning very decisively. Crooning was responsible for a good performance, while Kilonsa, after being fairly well back in the middle stages was making up ground in the straight. Rona Bay led early and going past the stands was In charge from Jewelled Girdle, Kilonsa, King Musk, Crooning, Scotland, Bonny Gay and Miss T.u, with Grand City bringing up the rear. Raring along the back. Crooning had run up behind Rona Bay and this pair at this stage were followed by Jewelled Girdle, King Musk. Bonny Gay. Scotland, Kilonsa, Miss Lu and Grand City. Three furlongs from home, Rona Bay and Crooning were still in charge, with Scotland, who had Improved his position, next, In front of King Musk, Bonny a Gay, and Jewelled Girdle. At the turn, Rona Bay and Croonins- were still near of Scotland and King Musk, and in the straight Rona Bay carried on to win easily by two and a-half lengths rrom Crooning, who beat Kilonsa by a similar margin. King Musk was fourth, in front, of Scotland, Miss Lu. Bonny Gay, jewelled Girdle and Grand City. Time. 2.11 1-5.
