The police, under the padlock law to suppress Communism, swooped down on two foreign language halls revealing Communist night schools. The eighty pupils were attending public schools in the daytime. Textbooks extolling Marxism and bearing photographs of Lenin and Stalin were seized. Pupils and teachers were were excluded and the halls were padlocked. There were no arrests.
