AUCKLANDER IN GEELONG CONVICTED OF FALSE PRETENCE United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright MELBOURNE, Feb. 11 When David Scroggie (47 s . of Auckland, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Geelong Court to-day for alleged false pretences, the magistrate asked the police to see whether there was any means whereby Scroggie might be sent back to New Zealand. Otherwise, the magistrate added, Victorians would be paying to keep in gaol a man who had only been out of a New Zealand gaol a month. Scroggie' admitted 23 previous convictions. Evidence was given that he had represented himself as an agent of an advertising firm and had collected £1 4s from each of two Geelong firms. Accused said he was known as “the wizard from the north.”
