BURIED ALIVE

COAL-MINER’S FATE CAUGHT BY FALL OF STONE (Special to Times.) GREYMOUTH, Friday Mr Robert Knight (56), married, a well-known Labour leader, was killed this morning when caught by a fall of stone in O’Brien and party's co-oper-ative coal mine at Rewanul. Between 500 and 1000 tons of stone dropped from the roof and buried Mr Knight to a depth of 20ft. His mate, Mr William Armstrong, who had just filled a box with coal and was near the bottom of the section, had a miraculous escape. After many hours’ work the body was recovered, death apparently having been due to suffocation as there appeared to be no external injuries.
