RAIN INTERFERES
SPORT IN WAIKATO SECOND WEEK IN SUCCESSION FIXTURES CALLED OFF For the second week in succession wet weather interfered with sporting activities in the Waikato to-day and aithougli the rainfall up to 9 o'clock was only .08in., it was sufficient to make sports grounds heavy and slippery. A steady drizzle this morning was interspersed with heavy showers and the outlook for the week-end was disappointing for those contemplating a holiday out-of-doors. To date February has been a fairly wet month and the aggregate rainfall is about 3.37 inches, against the average of 3.10 inches, with less than half the month past. The break in the weather at this critical period has proved of immense value to farmers, who were becoming concerned over the drying up of pastures. Tennis Tourney Postponed Owing to the state of the weather the Waikato tennis tournament, the. finals of which were to have beer/ played to-day, was postponed til. Monday. Play ceased at 4.30 p.m. last evening, when rain set in. Mercer Regatta Off The annual regatta to have been held at Mercer to-day was postponed owing to inclement weather. Hamilton Cricket All matches under the control of the South Auckland Cricket Association, to have been played in Hamilton to-day, were abandoned. AUCKLAND THUNDERBTORM ALL SPORTS POSTPONED (By Teiegrapn.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Saturday A thunderstorm of exceptional severity broke over Auckland and the areas north this morning. There was a heavy rainfall of 1.22 inches in the city and it was heavier in the north where heavy flooding occurred in some places. Sporting events in Auckland with the exception of the trotting meeting were cancelled.
