The Adventures of Johnny and Joan.

DEAR EVERYONE, One day when Johnny and Joan and their two pets were wandering in the “ Land of Nod ” they came upon a fairy castle around which was a beautiful moat. “Oh! look at those lovely water-lilies,” cried Joan, pointing to the large white blossoms which floated on the water. Hardly had she uttered these words when out of the nearest flower there pepped a quaint little man. “ Hello! I am the sprite of the moat,” quote he, “would you like a sail in one of my water lilies?” Of course our adventurers said “Yes” and into the boat they stepped. They seemed to fit inside quite easily (either the flower had grown larger cr our adventurers had grown very small indeed), however, the water lily floated perfectly. The sprite showed them how to make a sail of a Illy leaf and when the breeze caught, this—off they sailed right merrily (as you may see in the third pi.cture). But what of Biddy and Bone. Well, I really must tell you. Those pets wished to sail in a lily also—and without mentioning it to the sprite of the moat they jumped into the very first lily they found. “Plonk,” over it went! It was the sprite’s magic which turned those lilies Into boats but of course those pets didn’t know this. “Women and children first,” cried Biddy fluttering above the water while Bone gripped the branoh of a tree overhead. However, they were soon rescued—and perhaps that wetting taught those pets a lesson, PJSTEF* PAM,
