WOMEN’S DIVISION

HAMILTON BRANCH The February meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union was held on Tuesday in the Y.M.C.A., the president, Mrs A. J. Clements, presiding over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed and motions of sympathy were passed to Mrs Roebuck and Mrs Crawford. Mrs H. Windsor, the housekeeping secretary, in her report, stated that six positions for housekeepers had been filled in the last two months. A request was made for garments for two wards at the Waikato Hospital. The arrangements were discussed for the visit of Miss K. Courtney, a combined meeting of the Women's Division and Women’s Institute to be held on March 1 at the Winter Show Concert Hall. The progress report from the Dominion president was read. Miss M. Mawson, recently-appoint-ed Y.W.C.A. secretary, was welcomed by the president and introduced to the members. The roll call of mottoes was well responded to. Mrs N. E. Blomfleld, president of the Plunket Society, spoke of the work of the society, and a demonstration of pen-painting was given by Mrs W. E. Higgins. Community singing was then enjoyed by the members. The hostesses were Mrs Southgate, Mrs Wallace, Mrs Mason and Mrs Carlinsop.

MORRINSVILLE BRANCH At the February meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, the president, Mrs R. A. S. Browne, welcomed several new members. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mesdames E. H. Hutchings and J. J. Doorty, two members of the committee who have been indisposed. The housekeeping report showed that the district's one permanent housekeeper had been steadily employed. It was decided to send £5 to the community chest, and to explain in a covering letter that only this amount was sent as Morrinsville has its own housekeeping scheme to maintain. The cooking competition for a madeira cake was won by Mrs J. R. West, and the floral competition for a bowl of dahlias by Mrs H. Wilcox. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Vowles, who judged the cakes. A demonstration of wood-pulp flowgr-making was given by Mrs Seville, who was thanked for her visit. Thanks were expressed to Mrs Gallichan for a donation of magazines for the branch library. Letters were received acknowledging the donations / of money and

Christmas gifts sent to the Makogai leper station. Members from the Piako district were the hostesses for the meeting.

RAGLAN—KARIOI BRANCH The Raglan-Karioi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting at the Town Hall supper-room recently. There was a fair attendance of members, the president, Mrs V. Pegler, welcoming visitors and several of the branch’s members who had been absent from previous meetings on account of ill-health. It was decided that the Women's Institute and the Women’s Division of Raglan would combine to form a picnic party to go to Bridal Veil falls. The picnic will be held at the end of February or early in March. The floral competition held during the afternoon was won by Mrs T. Pooley, and consisted of making two gentlemen's buttonholes in five minutes. The competition for March is to be the best bloom from each member’s garden. The general (dental clinic) committee will hold a meeting shortly, and as the Government has restored the grant of £2OO (to £IOO raised by the settlers) for the building of a room for housing the clinic, it is thought likely that the committee may decide to try to raise the money, and the Division has promised its support. Mrs Grayling and Mrs Dor read interesting articles entitled “A Visit to Bridal Veil Falls” and "Tea Time in Japan,” and letters were read from the Waikato Hospital Sunshine League thanking the branch for the donation to their pillow-phone fund; from Mrs Smith, Dominion secretary, thanking members of all branches for their loyal co-operation during the year; and from Mrs Lomas, a former branch secretelling members of her new home-making efforts at Thames. Raglan East were hostesses, and at the close of the afternoon served afternoon tea to members and friends.

OTOROHANGA BRANCH The president. Mrs Pye. presided at the monthly meeting of the Otorohanga. branch, when there was a full attendance of members in the Town Hall annexe. Mrs Stokes gave an instructive demonstration on the making of bouquets. Miss Edna Trotf, Kio Kio, was the guest of honour ns president of the junior branch of the Division. Mrs Pye, on behalf of the Division, presented Miss Trott with a beautiful bouquet in appreciation of her work among the juniors, and wished her happiness in her approaching marriage.
