The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, it was stated at yesterday’s caucus of the Labour Party in Wellington, is making excellent progress towards complete recovery from his recent indisposition, and it is expected he will resume duty in a few days.

The appointment of Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., as principal stipendiary magistrate, in Auckland, In succession to Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., has been advised by the Department of Justice.

The Hon. W. E. Parry, the New Zealand Minister of Internal Affairs, was among the guests at a garden party given by the British High Commissioner in Australia, Sir Geoffrey Whiskard, at Canberra.

The Labour Party caucus at Wellington yesterday passed a resolution of sympathy with the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, who has been indisposed for some days.

Lord Nuffield will arrive in Auckland from Sydney by the Awatea on Monday afternoon and return by the same ship the following afternoon. According to his original plans he will leave Sydney by the Orion on February 23 for England.

Arrivals by the Wanganella at Wellington from Sydney to-day included Mr C. P. Kerry, bandmaster of the Randwick Municipal Band, Sydney, who will adjudicate at the New Zealand contest at Palmerston North, commencing on February 21.

Fathers P. A. Carmine, of Broken Hill, New South Wales, J. Dowling, of Beechworth, Victoria, and J. Doherty, of Wadonga, Victoria, arrived by the Wanganella at Wellington today to attend the Catholic Centennial Congress at Auckland. Father Carmine will represent the Bishop of Wil-cannia-Forbes.
